Following up on my previous blog post...

When I first started my personal trainer studies, besides understanding of the human anatomy, nutrition was what made me dive back in the books and online constantly to find answers. I had tons of questions running in my mind, every time when I come across an illness, a medication, or a natural remedy.

In the theory book I was given, they had mentioned the RDA (Recommended Daily Amount) for an average adult. Logically, I had some doubts on information like these, which had me researching on Holistic doctors online. In first world countries, where western medicine can be easily purchase by everyone, modern humans find, fast and effective cures more attractive. Pop a pill in and your headache or tummy ache is gone. Well as for me, I do not believe by doing so solve the issue, what would you do when you don't have a pill.

I have found like-minded people on social media. There are few modern Holistic doctors, personal trainers and nutrition scientists: Dr Axe, Dr Berg, Dr John Bergman, Rubio Furte, Benjamin Bikman, Shawn Baker, Troy Casey aka Certified Health Nut, Health Coach Kate, etc.. They have opened up my eyes to true knowledge of foods. Not some health tips with no back up journal studies given by the masses. The health pyramid is all a myth, its obsolete for this day of age, we people are smart enough to see and conduct our own experiments. Time to erase what your school have taught you, take in this new knowledge I am about to share.

Troy Casey aka Certified Health Nut, he is one of my all time favorites. Because his objectives in life was close to mine. His studies on natural resources connection with mankind, how humans have transformed them into useful essentials and the truth on why they are also taken away from us by the rich corporations. He talks a lot about breathwork, sun light, along with daily movement like (Drunken Monkey and the Zen Swing) walking bare foot, taking cold showers. Also mostly because Wim Hof has proven himself along with 24 other people to prove that controlling your mind to trust the cold, keeps your system strong against illnesses. You can read more about Troy life philosophies, a guide to be Ripped at 50, which I am currently reading as well.

Dr Axe (A chiropractor and clinical nutritionist)He has a website and a Youtube channel filled with useful studies explaining about types of herbs, foods and diet, their pros and cons. Covering topics for health and beauty, with recipes natural remedies. Very straightforward and clear information for anyone needs accurate answers with no bullshit.

Dr John Bergman (A chiropractor and Holistic Doctor) whom have done lots of research, by working with his patients. Helping them get off of medication and start recovering without modern quick fix surgeries. He highlights that big pharma companies are educating everyone misleading information about what is healthy and what is not. One of the biggest myth is cholesterol is bad for us.

Dr Eric Berg (A Chiropractor, and now a Keto and intermittent fasting expert) he is known for sharing tips on Youtube videos, sometimes a Live Q&A session on how to solve your daily struggles, like sleepless night, bloated tummy, and explaining how the body reacts.

Dr Benjamin Bikman, where else for Bikman, he is a scientist mainly studying on Insulin Resistance, he teaches in Universities in the States as well as in Singapore. He has done tons of interviews, online and in a lecture hall. His Youtube channel explains scientifically on how our body reacts and creates ketones. He is very passionate about this topic and has lot of studies and references.

Dr Shawn Baker (An author of the Carnivore Diet and Cowering Corner, he is also an orthopaedic surgeon, world leading authority on treating disease with medical nutritional therapy) You may have seen him being interview by Joe Rogan and on Health Theory. He has a Youtube, 'ShawnBakerMD' where he answer myths and questions.

Rubio Furte (A Nutrition Scientist) is also one of my favorites, he is also in his late 20s like me. He writes mini quizzes on his Instagram story to test your knowledge on nutrition. I would screenshot them and share the questions and answers on my Facebook for my family and friends as education.

Kait (A Health Coach) She is quite similar to Rubio. In terms of sharing knowledge on intermittent fasting, how to lose belly fat, and reverse insulin resistance. Easy to understand illustrations explaining the good food vs the bad choice of food.

My objective here is to share my links, telling you that diets are not meant for everyone, you can slip in and out from time to time. Don't go to hard on a diet for too long if it doesn't make you feel or look good. Reminder to listen to your body giving you signals.

As far as I know for Veganism in Singapore, it started becoming a big trend or the most talked about topic in fashion and against animal cruelty in 2012. And yes, it might have been around for ages but not being surfaced into a trend. When I first heard about it, its all about saving the animals, reducing pollution due to mass farming of livestock, more land was needed so they cut down trees, methane gas harming the Earth's atmosphere.. etc. Whether its the truth or a conspiracy theory. It got me thinking. Which was why, it got me first into being a vegetarian, then a vegan. It was tough definitely, especially eating out. The best is Indian vegetarian food, even though not all are vegan-friendly. Chinese vegetarian/vegan food on the other hand, often tastes similar to me. So most of the time, prefer to cook my own meals.

After a year of being vegetarian from 2013 to 2014, I lost 2kg, looking skinnier than ever, which was scary to me, as I am already a slender. Honestly, I was feeling terrible mentally and physically. I felt unhealthy, and always hungry. My parents dislike me avoiding meat, saying that I am not getting the nutrition a body needs. At that time I had no knowledge on nutrition, so my diet was pretty much crap. Its always pasta, sushi, vegetables, fruits (a lot of tomatoes) and vegan snacks like Oreo, dried seaweed, fries and some nuts. My acne got worse, I was so stressed with the limited food choices. I couldn't go on with it. I decided to go easy on myself, lowered my restrictions, to having whenever is given to me. For example, whatever my parents and grandma cooked, I would eat them, which is 3 times a week. And whenever I eat out it would chose vegetarian, when I cook it would be vegetarian. I would avoid animal's milk or eggs. Only on vacation and special occasions, I would eat what is being served, or just to taste some traditional culture's dishes. But I have my exceptions as well, example, duck meat, sea urchin, animal's milk, frog meat and turtle soup. Fast forward to 2016, where I came across a company selling Negative ION clothing, with testimonials from over 200,000 people or more. Using their blanket, it has fixed my period cycle and low the pain of cramps, but I still had acne. I thought to myself, oh well, maybe this could help with my acne and overall health maintenance. About 7 months later, I realized the proper way to improve your health still relies on what you eat. You could still wear the clothing, still be eating junk and still feel terrible. Whatever it is, I started doing my research on foods to take and to avoid for different types of disease, illnesses and all the vitamins that the human body needs.

At this time, I cut out all the food with artificial chemical names that I can't pronounce, soy lecithin, emulsifiers, coloring, artificial flavor, shortening, vegetable oil and syrup. Which is about 75% of the food in the supermarket, are processed food. This lead me to studying nutrition. Nutrition for bodybuilding, for an athlete vs an average person with a sedentary lifestyle. Halfway through the thick theory book, I looked up on Youtube for some real life explanations on certain diets and food people eats. It brought me into all sorts of diets, keto, paleo, pescatarian, low carb, carnivore and holistic. While doing my research on Youtube, I came across a guy sharing a book on Common food allergies, opened up my mind.

Book written by Prof. Keith Scott-Mumby

Here's an interview video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sda3NzhZo54

Its about common food allergies, from the food you consume every day. In his book, he explains how certain food can affect different people differently, by using real life stories, he had encountered over the years with his patients.

In the next blog post, I will be sharing some references. Stay tuned.. Here are a few of my favorite homemade vegan dishes :D

Hey ya! Some exciting news and updates. The draft for this post have been sitting on my computer since January. Sadly my portfolio site had closed down in the beginning of 2020. I panicked a little, searching for a platform to have my portfolio online as soon as possible. And of course, the Chinese New Year and Valentine Day workload season drowned me out at the same time. Then finally March comes, now everything is much calmer...

Surprise! my company are forcing me to clear my leave which I am saving for travels.

Eh.. so this is how I am spending it... how should I spend it? With the corona virus becoming a world epidemic, my Ayutthaya Trip with the Muay Thai Gym in March is cancelled, which made me extremely disappointed. Emotions got to me real hard and I started losing my perspective in life. Nevertheless, still consistently upgrading on myself bit by bit to achieve a minimalist and zero-waste lifestyle. Scrolling through images from 2018 till now, I realized, none of my plans changed much. Here's a timeline:

In Dec 2016, I wanted to pick up a new language and find a job.

In Mid 2017, I got a full time job and found a new interest in Personal Trainer and Nutrition Studies.

In Mid 2018, I got my Muay Thai Certificate.

At the End of 2018, I got my Personal Trainer Certificate.

In Jan 2019, I got my second Muay Thai Certificate.

In Nov 2019, I got my A1.2 Italian Certificate.

In March 2020, I got my A1.3 Italian Certificate.

Plus I have improved on my fitness, cooking and baking. Balancing work life with personal time. Saving money.. I started to tell myself, this isn't that bad, I am kinda still on track on my goals. Just stressing too much on the negative stuff that happened and forgot about what I have or can achieved. So anyway, I'll end it here.

All the best on your goals with positive vibes, press on.

Xoxo

Next post will be on the way :D
